It is one of the rare associations in the deck that gives the feeling an address. The Heart alone floats: it notes an attachment without saying where it unfolds or in what form. The House alone describes a frame without saying what is felt inside it. Together they produce a very concrete expression: affection occupying a daily life.
So the pair covers shared living, but not only the couple. The House is also the family in the broad sense, the close circle, whatever shelters. Heart and House can name attachment to parents, the warmth of a place, the tenderness circulating between people who share the same roof. Reducing this pair to the romantic duo means losing half of its field.
A point of method. This pair describes a state of the situation, not a stage that has been passed. It says that affection and household are in the same sentence, without specifying since when or for how long. Duration belongs to other cards, and so does novelty.
The Heart, then The House

The Heart is the noun, the House the qualifier. The subject is the feeling; what qualifies it is domestic anchoring. You start from affection and you say where it lands.
This order describes a movement of settling in. The attachment existed, it takes its place in a location and in a daily routine: a roof is shared, habits, a space. It is no longer a feeling experienced at a distance, it is a feeling that has walls.
The order also carries a notion of stabilization without ever promising duration. The House anchors, it does not make things eternal. A settled love can come undone; the pair only says that at the moment of the spread, affection occupies a domestic frame.
Another possible reading in this order, just as literal: the feeling is directed at the household itself. Someone loves their home, cares about their family circle, places their attachment in what shelters rather than in a person. The third card settles it, following the mechanics described on reading by combinations.
The House, then The Heart
Canonical reading: a warm household, love settled under one roof.
The reversal shifts the subject. It is now the household that is the noun, and the Heart that qualifies it. You are no longer asking where the feeling goes, you are asking what this place is made of. Answer: of affection.
The difference is clear in use. Heart, then House answers a question about the tie, and the place comes to specify its form. House, then Heart answers a question about the place, the family or the domestic atmosphere, and the feeling comes to give its temperature.
This order is often met when the question concerns the atmosphere of a home, the relationship with close relatives, or life under one roof. The pair then indicates that the circle is warm, that what circulates in it belongs to attachment rather than to obligation or conflict.
Worth remembering: here the Heart qualifies a collective, not a person. It does not point to a lover hidden in the house, it says that the place is loved and that people love each other in it. The distinction avoids many novelistic readings of spreads that were talking about family.
In practice
“Is this the right time to live together?” The pair does not advise and dates nothing. It indicates that what is at play is indeed the settling of affection into a shared place, and not the existence of the feeling.
“How are things at my parents’ house right now?” House, then Heart answers on the temperature of the circle: what circulates in this household belongs to attachment. The pair describes an atmosphere, it settles no particular conflict.
“Does this relationship have a place in my daily life?” Heart, then House answers that it does, the tie occupies a concrete space in everyday life. It does not say whether that space is suitable: that judgment belongs to the neighboring cards.
What the pair does not say
It does not announce a move, nor a property purchase. Displacement of the household belongs to the Ship, and access to housing to the Key. The House names the home, not the transaction.
It does not say that a couple is forming. It says that affection and the domestic frame are associated in the reading, which also holds for a family or an affectionate flat share.
It guarantees no duration. A place anchors, it does not promise to hold: the Anchor deals with duration, not the House.
Finally, it does not say that all is well. A warm household can contain tensions that other cards name. The pair sets a register, it does not deliver a health report.
